The Museum of Inland Waterways and Industrial Heritage Sites

Redon local council and the Friends of the Museum created the Musée de la Batellerie de l’Ouest (Museum of Inland Waterways) which houses a collection of objects, models, old photographs and sailors’ experiences. The museum has also acquired two barges, the Pacifique and the Condorcet, which have been restored thanks to a social integration project.

For a long time the navigable waterways and the port attracted craftsmen and workshops, who were followed by mechanised industries beginning with Garnier, the famous agricultural machinery constructor, Mottais who fitted out the wooden interior of the liner France built in Saint-Nazaire, and Baccarat Crystal.

Today the picturesque port district has become a leisure and discovery area with its museum, marina, Cinémanivel and salt lofts.
