Following in the footsteps of the Romans and the "Jacquets"
In the past, Pont Veix was a highly frequented place. It was from here that the ancient Roman way lead to the town of Nantes then onto Rennes passing the Don.
It is also here that the monks from the "Marsac sur Don Priory" built an inn for welcoming the "Jacquets" on their way to Spain (pilgrims travelling to St Jacques de Compostelle).
A paved section
Recently renovated, the Roman way is easily identifiable on ordnance survey maps (cartes IGN) but it is on approaching the Pont-Veix site that one comes across a whole section with its paving stones still remaining.
