The St John the Baptiste du Temple church - Carentoir

Ancient Templar order
Carentoir is known for having founded the largest Order of the Temple in Brittany and the eldest in the Morbihan county.

A rare wooden figure
From the past there remains a rare wooden figure dating from the end of the 13 th century in the St-Jean-Baptiste-du-Temple church. It represents a mounted knight, perhaps, but we are not sure, a Knight Templar.

A walking trail
Many valuables (statues, paintings dating from the XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries) are also visible without forgetting the numerous Templar crosses which punctuate the village of Carentoir's surrounding countryside. To discover the little-known past of this local heritage, there is a walking circuit which is possible by means of self-guided walks with the help of a map.

Maps are available at the Town hall or at the Pays de la Gacilly tourist office in La Gacilly.
